Day 8: Hard Day
Shanaz, I'm a day late but this is for you: Chubby Bunny
Today was a rough day for me: I woke up with my body aching even worse than yesterday. I had lots of trouble walking and going down stairs was a nightmare! I thought my body was healing but it was, on the other hand, feeling even more sore than before. Today we rushed to class and I was only a minute late, but when I arrived to class the teacher stepped outside to speak with me.
The teacher said that they had decided to move me from group 5 to group 6, which was the highest of the classes. On one hand, I was excited to be learning more difficult content and to be with some of my peers, with whom I had been learning Russian at PSU. On the other hand, I was afraid of the difficulty and the intensity that awaited me on the other side. After all, I had been placed in the 5th group and had completed the homework assignments for this group, not for the 6th group! This means that I was behind my peers right from the get go, and that I would not be prepared for class. I think that my level of speaking Russian lies somewhere between the 5th and 6th level: I've already learned content from the 5th level and it is quite easy, yet the 6th level feels like it is out of my league.
Class felt like hell today, I felt like I had to prove myself and that only made me more nervous when I was called on to answer questions and read passages out loud. Try as hard as I could, it felt as if I couldn't do anything right. My head began to hurt midway through the 6 hour class day and my body was still extremely sore from cross fit on Monday. To make matters worse, I had to complete the homework assignments for not only tomorrow (Thursday), but also for the day I missed (Today)!
After class, I went to eat lunch with some groupmates and tried some kind of lagman (noodles) with sauce, it was quite bland. We drank some "Funky Lemonade" and it tasted like carbonated cough syrup. After this, I immediately went home and took a 1.5 hr nap. When I woke up, I worked on my homework assignments some more and then had dinenr with my host family.
It was obvious to them that I was not feeling so good, but they really tried to cheer me up and I really appreciate it. When Adilbek came home late after drinking, he brought a 4-meat meat-lover pizza and we talked about class. After this, I went right back to studying until I couldn't stay awake.
From here on out, classes are going to get brutal, so these blog posts are going to become less and less detailed. Because I am going up one level in my classes, I am at the lowest level in the class, which means that I have the most work to do. It's going to be a really tough and challenging summer for me, but I will keep my head up and give it my all.
